Executive Director, Elise Hansen
Elise Hansen began her professional career in the field of early childhood education in 1984. In her roles as a teacher, director and advocate for children and families, Elise has supported teachers in reaching their professional potential and recognizing their teaching strengths. She has been integral in creating purposeful indoor and outdoor classroom environments that support the children’s individual developmental needs while enhancing curriculum goals. Elise takes great pleasure in working with families and their children and believes relationship building to be a foundational tenet of a nurturing and satisfying learning environment.
A fine arts graduate of St. Olaf College, Northfield Minnesota, Elise also attended Minneapolis Technical College and has been awarded a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Administration from National-Louis University. She joined Winnetka Community Nursery School community in 2010.
Elise serves on the Advisory Board for Children’s Home and Aid Society Community Partners. Elise lives in Skokie with her husband, Joe and her daughter, Allison and Willie, a Pointer/Black Lab mix.
Our Staff
Our teachers are chosen on the basis of their academic background and their personal commitment to working with young children and their families. The school employs a full time Director and Assistant Director who have graduate degrees in Early Childhood Education and are responsible for the administration of the school on a daily basis. All staff has bachelors and /or graduate degrees in Early Childhood education. Our teaching staff actively attends courses at National-Louis University and The Erickson Institute as well as in-service training to keep them informed of new information in the field. Each staff member is certified in CPR and First Aid annually. The staff is a cohesive and caring group of educators who reflect the values and traditions of Winnetka Community Nursery School. We consider the experience, talent, and dedication of our staff to be our greatest asset.
Our staff meets monthly to discuss the progress of students, classroom curriculum, current projects and assessments. Our staff reads and reviews current literature pertaining to the development of young children and family support. Professional development is a top priority for all of our teachers and administration and the school community is very supportive of their endeavors. Many of our teachers have presented workshops for their colleagues as well as written newsletter articles for both the school newsletter as well as The Winnetka Alliance Newsletter. Teacher are members of The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) as well as the Chicago Metro Association for Young Children.
