Parent Involvement

Learning and development are interrelated from the child's very first day of life - Lev Vygotsky

There are many ways for parents to become active participants and partners in the education of children at Winnetka Community Nursery School. The school encourages parent involvement through a variety of opportunities:

Board

The WCNS Board is comprised of parents and the Director.  It is responsible for the overall operations and policies of the school.  Many of our parents find this to be an excellent opportunity to take an active role in our school and a great way to get to know other families. Day-to-day operations, including staffing, are the responsibility of the Director.  The Board meets on a monthly basis and we encourage parents to contact Board members with ideas and concerns.

Every January the Board hosts a Prospective Board Member coffee for parents interested in joining the Board.  Applications are accepted at this time.  If you have questions, please contact us.

Please share your special skills or interests with us! Our current Board members names can be found hear

Room Parent

Help coordinate communication between the school and among parents. Each class organizes a "get to know you" coffee or cocktail party for the parents in the fall, holiday gifts to children and teachers, and the class baskets for the WCNS Benefit. Room parents also contact parents to promote school events and advise them of school closings.

Classroom Volunteer

Parents are always welcome to visit and volunteer in the classroom. Providing volunteer time in the classroom offers parents the opportunity to observe children in a group, to spend time with children and to share special talents and ideas with children. Please arrange childcare for siblings on days that you plan to visit your child's classroom.
